Blast Dispersion Modelling

Working with you, always innovating

Ensure your key work schedules are not impacted by severe weather events.

Opticast’s rapid update forecasting delivers high-precision weather insight in real-time and out to 7-14 days, supporting the efficiency of your mining operations. This enables your teams to identify optimal weather windows for critical project or shutdown campaigns.

Blast Dispersion Modelling gives you a scientific, visual understanding of blast events, expected trajectory and pollutant concentrations, allowing you to make informed decisions on when to blast.

Weatherzone’s Total Lightning Network and Stormtracker systems provide unparalleled location accuracy. Detecting both intra-cloud (IC) and cloud-to-ground (CG) strikes, alerts are issued based on real-time detection within defined thresholds. This allows operation managers to make quick, confident weather risk decisions and inform staff of procedural action.

Optimise your decision making with precise, real-time data, and mitigate serious risk and cost.

Case study

Australian gold mine discovers the cost benefits of Miningzone alerts.

A major Australian gold mine recently trialled and upgraded to the extensive resources offered by Weatherzone Business.

The gold mine was previously using a single site lightning sensor but, following an incident that severely impacted operations, they questioned its reliability and accuracy.

The business chose to trial Weatherzone’s Total Lightning Network in tandem with their existing sensor to compare the response.

As thunderstorms moved through the area, their original single site sensor triggered several “red alerts” and put the mine into a 2-hour shutdown.

By contrast Weatherzone’s network, which accurately detects adverse weather and lightning strike range, showed that the lightning was greater than 30km away and not within the “red alert” zone.

Post-event analysis proved that the single site sensor had been too sensitive, costing time and money. Weatherzone’s alerts were accurate and had the site been actively incorporating the Total Lightning Network for their operations that day, the two hours of mining shutdown would have been avoided.

Freezing ocean temps cold comfort for South Australians

No South Australian needs to be told that it has been desperately dry in recent months across most of the state, and especially in southern parts. “Adelaide is so dry my lawn is like brown dry paper that crunches when you walk on it… Where is our rain???” asked Weatherzone Facebook community member Mara Gemini […]

Record-breaking global atmospheric moisture in April

Earth just had its most moisture-laden April on record as unrivalled air and ocean temperatures caused atmospheric moisture content to surge across the planet. It has been known since the 1800s that rising global air temperature allows Earth’s atmosphere to hold more moisture. This phenomenon is explained by the Clausius–Clapeyron relation, which shows that the […]
